Title:Contract Educational Science Test Item Writer, Remote



We’re looking for an experienced, talented educational test item writer to develop Science items for grades 6-10 nonfiction text passages. The writer will write multiple-choice items to precise specifications and educational standards for Middle School and High School Science articles. Items must be original and not submitted elsewhere. The candidate must have experience writing clear, plausible science test items at all Lexile levels for all grades. Contract position; must be available to work at least 30 hours per week.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or educational measurement
  • 5+ years of experience writing educational science assessment items for grades 6-10
  • Thorough knowledge of Middle and High School Life, Physical, & Earth and Space Sciences
  • Knowledge of properly constructed multiple-choice Science items
  • Familiarity with national and/or state curriculum standards, including Common Core
  • Ability to focus on the details required to produce quality, standard-specific items
  • Experience writing at all Lexile levels
  • Ability to focus on the details required to finalize and release a piece of content that is error free
  • Ability to work remotely while collaborating and contributing creatively to a team
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills
  • Strong technical and word processing skills


  • Develop original educational assessment items based on specific text passages
  • Provide quality test items written to required specifications and Science standards
  • Apply rules of grammar, mechanics, etc. to the development of items
  • Revise written items according to editors’ feedback
  • Foster respectful relationships with colleagues
  • Demonstrate a high level of productivity
  • Exhibit accountability for assigned work
